Boss Music Rescore
A rescore of the final battle from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010) using original music (Musical Composition / Scoring to Picture)
When given the option to choose any scene in film or television to rescore for my final project in Film Scoring, I went with a scene out of Scott Pilgrim as the aesthetics of the fight lent itself greatly to video game boss music and, using my musical skills, I crafted a fight scene using the music from my other game, Poly-Vinyl Pests, to create and build more tension in the fight scene
By throwing in more metal guitars at pivotal moments in the scene, I can dramatically increase the action in the scene, for example, when the protagonist jumps at the enemy and their swords initially clash, or adding a rising melody line for when the boss powers up and the difficulty of the fight on screen increases.
This song had been built using different sections for parts of the fight. Much like how I develop most of the boss music I work on, each set can be used in a cycle so as to make music integration into a game a fairly simple task, in addition to allowing different sections to be played at major moments in a games action: using the music to the game's advantage and building tension in a boss fight for the players (i.e. a boss's health bar refilling into the second phase before lunging into a new set of attacks).
Overall, I had fun building this song in Logic Pro X, recording, mixing, and mastering this piece to picture so that an iconic moment in one of my favorite films of all time can become even greater,
